Agave Salmiana Ferox Appearance

Agave salmiana ferox gets its name from its striking and vigorous appearance. Ferox, meaning “bold” or “wild,” comes from the same Latin root as “ferocious.”

The agave grows to over 10 feet wide and tall with massive, fleshy leaves that grow from the center in a rosette shape. The leaves curve to create a bulging appearance. They grow short, short spines along the margins as well as 2-3 inch long terminal spines.

Dark grey-green or blue-green leaves often have stronger grey tones toward the margins and terminal spines.

At the end of its life, the agave develops a very tall flower stalk that can reach 25 feet high—green-yellow flowers followed by dark-colored fruits containing black seeds.
